Most people find that alkaline water tastes better than normal tap water and bottled sparkling water. I find that making alkaline water with cucumber is a great way to add some extra flavor and vitamins into your drinking water.
I will be showing you the method that I’ve been using for many years, which produces a fresh-tasting alkaline drink in no time. As an added bonus, I’ll also show you how to make alkaline lemon cucumber water too.
Before we start, let’s take a look at what alkaline water actually is and explore its health benefits.
What is Alkaline Water?
Alkaline water is a type of ionized water that contains alkalinity. It can have a pH value higher than 7. Normal drinking water usually has a pH value of around 7 [1].
Alkaline water has recently become popular, as it is being promoted as being beneficial to human health. There are claims that drinking alkaline water can help with weight loss, muscle building and enhance the immune system.
There are also alkaline waters that have a PH value of 8 or more, but this higher alkaline water is mainly used for special purposes.
Why should you drink alkaline water?
Alkaline water is a good source of hydration. It helps in the proper utilization of carbohydrates and fats, which results in efficient energy production within the body. Drinking alkaline water before workouts can enhance your workout session by improving performance and stamina [2].
How can I get alkaline water at home?
Alkaline water can be made in your own home with alkaline water filter pitchers or an ionizing machine. You could also opt for bottled alkaline water (not recommended).
Alkaline Water Filter Pitchers (recommended)
An alkaline filter pitcher increases alkalinity by ionizing water. It produces alkaline water by adding negative ions to the alkaline filter pitcher, which makes alkalinity increase in proportion to pH value.
The best Alkaline Water Filter Pitchers are a cost-effective and convenient way of increasing alkalinity in drinking water as it doesn’t require any extra effort from your side.
Alkaline Water Ionizers (only if you’re super serious about alkaline water)
Alkaline water ionizers are electrical devices that alkalize the water by removing harmful toxins like lead and mercury. The makers of these machines say that they work by using electricity to separate the molecules of alkaline minerals from acidic minerals.
These machines are usually quite expensive, with most alkaline water ionizers costing over $300. Kangen Water filters can actually cost thousands of dollars.
Bottled Alkaline Water (not recommended)
There are several alkaline water brands available including alkil8, alkafuel, alkaline water of the east.
The reason I don’t recommend bottled alkaline water is that it is not good for the environment. You’re going to end up wasting or throwing away a lot of plastic bottles if you decide to go down this route.
If you want alkaline water, you can use an alkaline filter pitcher or an alkalizing machine. It’ll cost more upfront, but will also save you money vs buying bottled water.
